In the day of modern technology and social media, there is no question about it that MOST churches are sucking at all forms of marketing. If you’re one of the churches that does not, then kudos you get a gold star, but for most in America, they don’t know how to even do it properly.
Why is it do you think that most churches don’t take all forms of marketing seriously? I know from experience in my line of work as a Social Media Specialist/Coordinator, and being a Worship Pastor for my church (wearing many hats including such), is that most churches don’t, or haven’t yet found that the use of social media for marketing is a BIG deal. News flash… it’s a HUGE deal and you NEED to be on the band wagon.
Social Media consumes 80% of customers, the folks in your church and even people looking for that daily pick-me-up are constantly on social media whether it be Twitter or Facebook. You as a church should be at the very least, marketing some quotes of inspiration daily for everyone to see, what is going on in your church, events things along those lines or more depending on what type of church you are. For those of you who think that Yelp is a form of social media, please don't it’s not. You may wonder, “how do I get started, do I have to create my own ideas etc?” The answer is, heck no and the bible clearly states there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9) No need to recreate the wheel, look on Pinterest and take some verses, quotes and add your own flare to them and brand the graphic with your church logo. It’s that easy! Keynote here as well, if you take an article from someone, please please please, make sure to give them credit by linking your post back to them. That's super important.

In the long term, the church should be the best (not perfect) at everything it does and that should include social media. Marketing with social media is not going away anytime soon, in fact, it’s picking up even more. What better way to populate it, than by sharing the good news of Jesus in a creative fun way. Our mission is to bring the message of hope to this world. The world folks, are on Social Media.
