If you’re reading this post, chances are YES your Church does need to rebrand. See how I got you there? It could also be, that your church no longer represents what you currently in the past represented, and that is a.okay. You know so many churches struggle with finding their “identity.” What do I mean? Now I don’t mean our identity in Christ, but our identity in the “Who We Are” as a church. With the culture nowadays of amazing worship teams, speakers as pastors etc, lots of churches struggle to find their “place.” This is where your branding comes in.
How can you represent yourself as a church in a way that is pleasing to the non-believers as well as believers? Super easy. Don’t be afraid to give them Jesus. I see so many churches that try to “secularize” themselves that Jesus ends up taking a backseat, eating a bagel. I then feel like I’m at a Taylor Swift concert. (never been just saying). Now I’m all for excellence and appealing to those who are non-churched, love music/stage productions etc, but we can get too caught up that we lose ourselves. Jesus told amazing stories, but in the end it led people to the truth.
So, “Does Your Church Need a Rebrand?"
Here are 5 Ways to see if you need to rebrand your church:
1.) Does your church attract the right people? This could go MANY ways, but when I say people I mean is your church attracting non-believers? We are called to not minister to believers but to the non-believers. How are you doing this successfully?
2.) You’ve Outgrown Your Original Church Branding. This means that the logo you’ve had for 100’s of years is old, outdated and you just need to step it up more. Being a Worship Pastor/Creative Arts Director at my church (LPChurch.com), we went through a HUGE rebrand and are still to this day going through more. You know what though? We are growing to the point of having to add more services, expand our ministry areas and everything! God is good, but I will say because of hard work as well as changing our logo, it appeals more to the unchurched and we are so blessed for that. So, try new things and change things up a bit.
3.) Refocus Your Teams. We all need to take time aside and really analyze our ministry areas, church groups etc. When we refocus our teams, light vision and passion into the hearts of our teams, it begins to grow and greater more amazing things will happen. Are you sowing vision and passion into your leadership?
4.) What Will Your Church Involve? Although logos, web design, church marketing cards, and stationery all fall into branding, your rebrand effort can also tackle taglines, name changes, product changes, and a plethora of other shifts. Getting all of those right is huge and most churches (unless they are inherited by one that was super excellent/successful), don’t even have that down.
5.) Do You Have Interaction on Social Media? This is HUGE! So many business including churches (which churches are a business too folks), lack the fortitude for social media or disregard the amazing benefits of social media marketing. Did you know that more than 87% of people are on social media daily! What better way than to get on the social media train and take action and draw folks to your church? Get on it today!
I believe that God has created everything to be used for his glory and purpose. God doesn’t waste any resources, therefore we shouldn't either.
